Women's Lacrosse: Norwich Comes From Behind To Defeat Assumption, 16-13

Mar 25, 2008

WORCESTER, Mass. - Ally Daniels and Jessica Allmer each scored four goals apiece to lead the Norwich University women's lacrosse team to a 16-13 victory over Assumption Tuesday evening. The Cadets outscored Assumption, 10-4, in the second half to overcome a 9-6 halftime deficit.

Daniels and Allmer each added one assist for Norwich (2-1). Chelsea Martin also added three goals, while Kathleen Hennessy chipped in three goals and one assist. Allyson Allen and Ashley Haviland each contributed one goal and one assist. Dawn McNulty and Alyssa Nicoloro added one assist apiece.

"I could not be more proud of how the girls came back after being down at halftime," said NU head coach Tyler Renaud. "We won this game on true determination, as Assumption was very fundamentally sound and had more foot speed than we did. I have to credit Nicki Pickel for really keeping us in the game again this week, with great eight-meter shot saves and excellent clears from the defensive zone.

"Dawn McNulty really provided a spark for us off the bench, as she hustled to every face off and loose ball in her area.  It was just a great team effort, but we still have a lot to work on as we prepare for GNAC play."

Kellie Pickel made 16 saves in goal for the Cadets.

Becca Kelley led Assumption (0-4) with four goals, while Meaghan Gallagher chipped in three goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Lauren Matysiak made 11 saves in goal.

NU returns to action on Thursday, March 27, when it travels to Westfield, Mass., to take on Westfield State at 4 p.m.
