Women's Lacrosse: Emerson Comes From Behind To Beat Norwich, 16-13

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Maeghan Ross scored a game-high nine goals and added a game-best two assists, and Laura Miley chipped in four goals to help lead Emerson to a 16-13 come-from-behind victory over Norwich in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse game Saturday afternoon at Howard Field.

With the victory, Emerson wins the GNAC regular season title and will be the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. Norwich, meanwhile, will have to settle for the No. 2 seed for the second straight season.

The Lions (10-2, 6-0 GNAC) trailed 10-5 at the 26:54 mark of the second half, but they scored the game's next six goals to take an 11-10 lead. Miley scored three times during the game-changing spurt, while Ross tallied twice.

Kacey Abbriano tied the game at 11-11 at the 14:29 mark, but three unanswered goals by Ross in a span of less than three minutes gave Emerson a lead that they never relinquished.

Abbriano and Ally Daniels combined to score eight of Norwich's nine first half goals as the Cadets took a 9-5 lead into halftime.

Daniels made it 10-5 early in the second half, but it was all Emerson from there as the Lions ended the game on an 11-3 run.

Abbriano led Norwich (7-4, 5-1 GNAC) with a team-high six goals and one assist. Daniels, meanwhile, finished with five goals. Mollie Fitzpatrick and Ashley Haviland both netted goals for the Cadets as well.

Norwich goalie Kellie Pickel made nine saves on 22 shots in the Cadets' cage, while Kristen DeTroia stopped nine of the 22 shots that she faced.

Emerson held a 33-26 edge in shots, including a 25-22 edge in shots on goal.

Norwich returns to action on Monday, April 20, when the Cadets host New England College in a non-league match at Howard Field beginning at 4 p.m. NU will begin its quest for a second straight GNAC Tournament championship on Wednesday, April 22, when the second-seeded Cadets host third-seeded Lasell at 2 p.m.
