Women's Lacrosse: Five Cadets Selected To All-GNAC Squad

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - After finishing runner-up in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season standings for the second straight year, the Norwich University women's lacrosse team placed five players on the all-conference team, it was announced by the league office on Friday.

Kacey Abbriano leads a trio of Cadets selected to the conference's first team as the freshman attacker was named the league's "Rookie of the Year". A native of Hicksville, N.Y., Abbriano ranked second on the team in goals (47), assists (13) and points (60).

Junior midfielder Ally Daniels, who leads the team in goals (58), assists (24) and points (82), was named to the all-conference first team for the second straight season. In addition to the impressive offensive numbers, the Concord, N.H., native was also adept at winning draw controls for the Cadets all season long.

Dawn McNulty, a junior defender from Syracuse, N.Y., rounded out the trio of Norwich players on the first team. It marks the second straight year that McNulty has earned first-team honors. This season, she has scored one goal and dished out one assist for two points. McNulty has collected 38 groundballs, and has been instrumental in the team's transition game.

A pair of Cadets earned recognition on the league's second team, with goalkeeper Kellie Pickel and attacker Chelsea Martin receiving the honor.

Pickel, a first-team pick as a freshman, picked up second-team laurels this season after a steady sophomore campaign in the Cadets' cage. The second-year goalie from Montpelier, Vt., has posted a 12.37 goals-against average and a .497 save percentage to go along with a 6-4 overall record.

Martin, meanwhile, ranks third on the team in goals (22), assists (eight) and points (30). The Barre, Vt., native, who was a first-team selection last season, has missed the team's last three games with an injury but will be back for Saturday's GNAC Tournament championship game.

In addition to the five all-league selections, freshman Suzanne Whitaker was placed on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Norwich (8-5) will face Emerson in the GNAC Tournament championship game on Saturday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. The Cadets dropped a tough 16-13 decision to the Lions in the regular season.
