FULL RELEASE: 2017 GNAC PRESEASON POLL
WINTHROP, Mass. – The Norwich University women's lacrosse team was voted seventh in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference preseason coaches' poll, the league office announced Thursday.
Norwich was voted to finish seventh out of the league's 10 programs, earning 40 points. Lasell, who claimed the GNAC Tournament last spring as the No. 4 seed, collective five first place votes en route to 89 total points. Johnson & Wales (R.I.) earned a first place vote and 88 points – the Wildcats were voted to finish second in the league.
Saint Joseph's (Maine) College trailed Johnson & Wales by only two points, picking up three first place votes, while Emmanuel (Mass.) College collected the final first place tally, securing 75 points for a projected fourth place finish.
The Cadets began the 2016 season with a bang, eking out a 9-8 victory over Thomas (Me.) in three overtime periods. Norwich ultimately won three out of their first four games in 2016, but finished the year with a 6-10 overall record and a 3-6 mark against GNAC opponents.
Head Coach Beth Van Parys enters her seventh season with the Norwich women's lacrosse team looking to qualify for the postseason for the 10th-straight time in 2017. Under her direction, the Cadets have won three-straight GNAC titles (2010, 2011, 2012) and earned Coach of the Year honors in 2010 after sprinting to a 10-3 overall record that season.
