BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Brian Zane authored a 4-0 individual record, and Alex Whitney forged a 3-1 showing as the Norwich wrestling team put together a 2-2 mark at the New England Duals on Sunday. The Cadets (5-7) defeated MIT (36-19) and Western New England (30-15), but fell to Springfield (24-12) and Coast Guard (28-15).

Zane, who wrestled the entire day at 133 pounds, began his unbeaten run with a 3-0 decision in the Springfield match. Whitney (184 pounds), Steve Celino (174 pounds) and Jake Kirk-Elkin (285 pounds) each added wins by decision against the Pride, as the Cadets wrestled very well against one of the top teams in the region.

A pin by Zane highlighted NU's victory over MIT in the second round. The Cadets also racked up several forfeit victories as they rolled to the 36-19 win.

Chris Barker posted a pin in the Cadets' loss to Coast Guard. Zane also posted a win by decision in that mat to keep his unbeaten run going.

A host of Norwich wrestlers contributed in the team's win over Western New England. In addition to Zane's win by decision, Barker added his second pin of the day, while Kirk-Elkin also won by fall. Whitney recorded a technical fall, and Connor Keating, Jordan Ferguson and Clayton Brittingham all notched wins by decision.

Norwich returns to the mats on Saturday, Jan. 26, when the Cadets travel to Cambridge, Mass., to take on MIT, Plymouth State and Bridgewater State. The dual matches are scheduled to get under way at 1 p.m.
