Brackets

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Freshman Joey Eon placed and senior Jordan Ferguson each posted fourth-place finishes as the Norwich University wrestling team placed eighth at the Williams Invitational on Tuesday. The Cadets amassed 31.5 points to finish last in the eight-team field.

Eon authored a 4-2 record in the 149-pound bracket en route to placing fourth. The Massebesic, Maine, native began the tournament by pinning Bridgewater State's Sean Fields in 5:55. Then, after falling into the consolation draw, Eon reeled off three straight wins before dropping a tough 4-3 decision in the consolation final.

Ferguson, meanwhile, posted a 1-2 mark in placing fourth at 197 pounds. The Beaver Falls, N.Y., product picked up a win by fall over Southern Maine's Matthew Bubar to reach the consolation final, where he lost.

Senior Matt Valnoski (174 pounds) and sophomore Raistlin Delisle (heavyweight) each forged solid performances as well, as each wrestler went 2-2 over the course of the day. Valnoski was quickly dispatched to the consolation draw, where he collected two wins, including a pin. Delisle, meanwhile, posted a win by fall and a major decision to reach the championship semifinals.

Norwich head coach Rich Hasenfus was disappointed that the Cadets were unable to wrestle to their potential on Tuessday, but is hopeful that the team can turn it around for its dual meet this weekend.
