Women's Rugby: Seda Scores Twice In All-Star Competition

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The U-19 Northeast women's rugby all-star team knocked off last year's champions, the Midwest all-stars, 22-19, on Saturday in a hard-hitting battle. Three Norwich women played the full match for the all-star team and contributed to the victory.

Sophomore prop Alicia Seda led all scorers with two tries on the day. Her first was a result of her smash and crash running, knocking over two players and fighting her way to the try zone for the touchdown to open scoring in the match. Her second try came from a pick and go, just meters out, which kept the Northeast all-stars in the game early in the second half.

After much back and forth battle, the Northeast went ahead at the end to seal the deal 22-19. NU freshman center Katie Hathaway was excellent in representing her Norwich team as was sophomore scrum-half Maria Lorentzon, who adapted to a new system and moved the ball.

"It was a great opening match for the Northeast," commented Norwich  head coach Austin Hall. "Our Norwich women have made great contributions to the side, and are representing our commitment to excellence very well."
