Emmanuel Trips Norwich, 4-3, In Overtime

Oct 3, 2007

BOSTON - Nikki Szczepanski scored two goals, but it was not enough as the Norwich women's soccer team dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to Emmanuel in a battle of two of the top teams in the GNAC Wednesday evening. The loss effectively snapped the Cadets' seven-game win streak.

Norwich (8-3-0, 6-1-0 GNAC) fell behind 2-0 after Emmanuel scored a pair within the first 23:09. The Cadets came roaring back, however. NU netted the game's next three goals to assume a 3-2 advantage midway through the second half.

Szczepanski kick-started NU's rally as the freshman took a feed from Karissa Doyon and scored just three minutes before halftime at the 41:59 mark. Dawn McNulty tallied the equalizer seven minutes into the second half when she corralled a throw-in from Megan Gingras and scored to knot the score at 2-2 at the 51:39 mark.

Then, Szczepanski gave the Cadets their first lead of the game at the 74:12 mark when she recorded her second marker of the game. NU's lead was short-lived, however, as Emmanuel scored just two minutes later, as Amber Di Nucci scored to tie the score at 3-3 at the 76:56 mark.

Neither team was able to score during the final 13 minutes of regulation, so the contest went into overtime. Emmanuel secured the victory when the Saints' Stephanie Levesque scored at the 97:24 mark.

Nicki Hunsicker was tremendous in the Norwich goal, as the freshman keeper turned away 14 shots.

Norwich was outshot by Emmanuel, 14-8, but the Cadets did hold a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Norwich women's soccer team wraps up its brief two-game road swing on Saturday, Oct. 6, when the Cadets take on GNAC foe Suffolk in Boston. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
