Norwich Edges Lasell, 1-0
NEWTON, Mass. - Meghan Hoskins scored a first-half goal and Nicki Hunsicker made six saves to help lead the Norwich women's soccer team past Lasell, 1-0, in a GNAC match Wednesday evening. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Cadets, who improve to 5-2-0 (3-0-0 GNAC).
Hoskins scored the game-winning goal off a direct kick in the 28th minute, and Hunsicker made it stand up, turning away four second-half shots, including a crucial stop in the final minute as NU held on.
Norwich had several opportunities to blow the game open, but the Cadets clanged four shots off of the crossbar, while another effort caromed off the goal post.
In addition to being pleased with the play of Hoskins and Hunsicker, NU head coach Tyler Renaud also lauded the play of Nikki Szczepanski, Dawn McNulty and Leanne Waterman, all of whom were instrumental to the triumph.
Norwich outshot Lasell, 20-10, but Lasell held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Norwich women's soccer team returns to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 22, when the Cadets welcome Albertus Magnus to Howard Field in Northfield, Vt. The GNAC match is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
