WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Ashley Sanford scored the lone goal, and Alecia Wright completed the shutout in goal as the Norwich women's soccer team nipped St. Joseph (Conn.), 1-0, in a GNAC game Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Cadets (12-4-0, 10-2-0 GNAC) clinch a first round home game in the upcoming conference tournament.

The game was deadlocked at 0-0 until the 75th minute when Sanford scored off an assist from Nikki Szczepanski.

Wright, who was credited with three saves in the game, remained perfect down the stretch as NU held on for the key league win.

Norwich outshot St. Joseph (Conn.), 21-8. Each team had three corner kicks.

The Cadets return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 23, when they travel to Standish, Maine, to take on St. Joseph's (Maine) in the regular season finale. The GNAC match is set to start at 3 p.m.
