Norwich Ties St. Joseph's (Maine), 0-0

Oct 23, 2007

STANDISH, Maine - The Norwich women's soccer team wrapped up its 2007 regular season with a 0-0 double overtime tie against St. Joseph's (Maine) on Tuesday afternoon. The Cadets wrap up their finest regular season in program history with a mark of 12-4-1 (10-2-1 GNAC).

NU will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. By virtue of finishing in the top half of the eight-team tournament field, the Cadets earned the right to host a quarterfinal game. That contest will be played on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Howard Field against an undetermined opponent.

St. Joseph's (Maine) (15-2-1, 11-1-1 GNAC) came into the contest ranked 10th in New England, but it was Norwich that controlled the majority of the play. While the Monks held a 20-6 edge in shots, the Cadets actually outshot the home squad, 5-3, in overtime.

Freshman Nicki Hunsicker went the distance in goal for the Cadets, turning away all five shots that she faced en route to her fourth shutout of the season.

"I am proud of the way our team played today," commented NU head coach Tyler Renaud. "This was our best game to date. We are peaking at the right time, with GNAC playoffs right around the corner."

Norwich will play either Albertus Magnus, Simmons or Lasell in the quarterfinals. The three teams went into Tuesday's games tied for fifth place in the league standings with 14 points apiece.
