Women's Soccer: Cadets Make It Two Wins In A Row With 3-1 Victory Over Lyndon State
LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - Karissa Doyon's return to the Northeast Kingdom was a special one as the Canaan Memorial graduate netted two second-half goals to lead Norwich University to a 3-1 victory over Lyndon State College in a non-conference women's soccer match Thursday afternoon at the LSC Athletics Field.
Brittany Casey, who collected 12 shots and seven shots-on-goal in the contest, gave the Cadets (6-7-1) a 1-0 lead at the 10:30 mark as she punched home a pass from Ashley Sanford.
The one-goal advantage stood until the midpoint of the second half when Doyon tallied two goals off a pair of crosses by Emily Chandler to push the Norwich advantage to 3-0.
The lone Lyndon goal of the contest came in the final minute of play as Kathy Kline drilled home a shot into the lower left-hand corner of the net off a pass from teammate Abby Fadden.
Nicki Hunsicker and Meghan Kennedy combined to make two saves for the Cadets, while Natalia Shams turned aside 16 shots for the Lady Hornets (7-6).
Norwich outshot Lyndon by a margin of 32-5, and the Cadets held a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
Norwich continues its three-game road trip on Saturday, Oct. 17, when the Cadets travel to Newton, Mass., to take on Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Lasell College. Kickoff for the key league match is set for 1 p.m.
