Feb 28, 2007
NORTHFIELD, Vt. -

Nine members of the Norwich men's & women's swimming and diving teams earned All-New England honors at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships held at the University of New Hampshire. Additionally, Norwich Associate Head Coach Laura Dunn was named as "Men's Coach of the Year" after leading the Cadets to a third place finish.

"The men's team really stepped up and performed to its potential," said Dunn. "To be named Coach of the Year is a reflection of the team's dedication and hard work. I couldn't be more proud of this group and their accomplishments."

Ben Courtney and Joe Moeller were New England Champions and were named to the All-New England Team. Courtney won the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.57, which is a Norwich record. Moeller won the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.36, which is also a school best.

Renat Fatkulin, Kyle Kenia, Chris Prybella, Ryan Raftery and Jeff Warner were also named to the All-New England Team.

"Our men's team performed reamarkably well," said Dunn. "They really joined together to achieve remarkable results and many lifetime bests, which is a testament to the hard work they put into training all season."

The Norwich men finished behind Bentley College and Keene State and ahead of Roger Williams and Colby-Sawyer.

"Laura Dunn did an outstanding job directing our men's swim team this season," said Norwich Director of Athletics Anthony Mariano. "The overall success we had at the New England Championships is a direct result of her hard work and dedication of our student-athletes. They all should be commended for a fantastic year."

The Norwich women finished 18th with Katie Witryk and Natalie Hamblin being named to the All-New England Team. The 18th place finish represented an improvement for the Cadets after taking 21st place last year. 2007 also marked the first time in six years that Norwich had a women's relay team in the finals.

"This was the largest Norwich women's team competing at the New England Championship in years," said Dunn. "All three of the relay teams qualified for finals and placed. Our ladies really stepped up to perform their best swim of the season."
