Volleyball: Norwich Splits GNAC Tri-Match With Mount Ida, St. Joseph's (Maine)

NEWTON, Mass. - The Norwich University volleyball team split a pair of matches versus Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents Saturday, as the Cadets dropped a 3-2 decision to Mount Ida, before defeating St. Joseph's (Maine), 3-0.
Norwich (16-10, 6-5 GNAC) and Mount Ida (16-9, 8-4 GNAC) went back and forth with the Mustangs securing the five-setter by game scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-16, 24-26 and 15-13. Junior Molly Rice led the way for the Cadets with 27 assists, seven digs and five kills. Senior Lisset Magdaleno added eight kills, nine digs and 10 blocks, while junior Thea Evans chipped in 11 kills and seven digs.
NU had little trouble in the second match of the day, cruising past St. Joseph's (Maine) (14-15, 3-7 GNAC) by set scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-21. Rice (25 assists, nine digs) and Evans (14 kills, four digs) paced the offense. Magdaleno posted seven kills, while sophomore Brittany Palmer added five service aces.
Norwich will close out the non-league portion of its schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 28, when the Cadets host MCLA at Andrews Hall. It will be Senior Day for the Cadets, and the team will honor its two seniors prior to the match.
