Volleyball: Nuckols named head coach

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Former NCAA Division II Davis and Elkins College standout Ashlynn Nuckols has been named the second head coach in Norwich University volleyball history, according to Director of Athletics Anthony Mariano.

Nuckols replaces long-time coach and administrator Amanda Cuiffo who left the school in January 2011.

A May 2009 graduate of Davis and Elkins, Nuckols comes to Norwich after being an assistant at Clarkson College of New York. While there, she played a key role in helping lead the Golden Knights to the Liberty League title and a berth and hosting responsibilities in the 2011 NCAA Division III national tournament. The former two-time all-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honoree has also had coaching stints as an assistant at Shenandoah University in Virginia and as a volunteer assistant at NCAA Division I Austin Peay State of Tennessee.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to continue to build on what has already been done (at Norwich)," she said. "There is a tradition of success in place, and I'm hoping to move that upward as we proceed forward."

"We are fortunate to have a person with the enthusiasm and background in volleyball that Ashlynn has," Mariano said. "I see this as being a good situation for the program to continue to develop down the road."

Nuckols takes over a Cadets' program that has a current run of five consecutive winning seasons and a similar number of successive years of being in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference postseason tournament.
