NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University volleyball team extended its winning streak to four straight with a 3-0 victory over Southern Vermont on Wednesday night at Andrews Hall in non-conference action.
Norwich (4-3) remained perfect at home as well with the victory, improving its record to 4-0 on its home court in 2017. The Cadets edged Southern Vermont 27-25 in the first set and then pulled away with 25-19 and 25-14 victories in the second and third sets.
The Cadets used a balanced offense with five players posting five or more kills. Sophomore Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) lead the team with seven kills and nine digs to post team highs in both categories.
Freshmen Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) and Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) each posted six kills and six digs as well. Schroeder led Norwich with four service aces, while Farnum was a perfect 13-for-13 in serve/receive.
Sophomores Marissa Perrotti (Moultonborough, N.H.) and Monika Schneider (Brookline, N.H.) rounded out the Norwich leaders with five kills apiece. Schneider also added eight digs and three service aces.
Junior Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) paced the offense with 27 assists for a 9.00 assist per set average.
Norwich improved its attacking percentage every set, finishing with a .261 percentage in the third and final set to put the Mountaineers away.
Sarah Billow led Southern Vermont with seven kills and totaled 10 digs.
Norwich hits the road for three straight road matches, starting with traveling to Johnson State on Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. start. The Cadets then head to St. Joseph (Conn.) for their GNAC league opener. They'll also play a non-conference match vs. Medgar Evers as well.
