Volleyball: Norwich breezes past Eagles for 8th straight win

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University volleyball team won its eighth straight match with a dominant 3-0 victory over Green Mountain College on Tuesday afternoon at Andrews Hall Gymnasium. 

Norwich (8-3, 1-0 GNAC) stayed perfect at home, improving to 5-0 on the year on their home floor. The Cadets won by scores of 25-9, 25-8, 25-11 to take the match and improve to 12-0 all-time against Green Mountain. 

Freshman Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) led the way with seven kills as the Cadet posted a .300 attacking percentage. 

Sophomore Monika Schneider (Brookline, N.H.) recorded eight of Norwich's 22 service aces in the match, to go along with four kills and five digs. 

Sophomore Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and junior Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) each had five kills for the Cadets, while Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) posted four kills. Oliver paced the offense with 13 assists, while senior Katie Crane (Avon, N.Y.) had four assists and three service aces. 

Zummo and Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) shared the team lead with six digs a piece. 

Norwich will look to keep its winning streak going on Wednesday when it hosts Newbury College in another non-conference match at Andrews Hall. The Cadets continue GNAC play on Saturday at 11 a.m. when it hosts Emmanuel.
