Volleyball: Norwich outlasted by Colby-Sawyer in five set marathon, 3-2

NORTHFIELD, VT. – The Norwich University women's volleyball team fell 3-2 to Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday night in non-conference play.

The teams went back and forth, with Colby-Sawyer taking the first and third set while Norwich took the second and fourth, setting up a crucial fifth game. Colby-Sawyer was able to pull away in the end, taking the decisive fifth game by a score of 15-8.

Sophomore Monika Schneider (Brookline, N.H.) led the way for the Cadets with 11 kills and 12 digs, while classmate Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 kills herself. Junior Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) led the Cadets with 28 assists on the night.

Sophomore Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) did her part defensively with 13 digs, followed by freshman Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Cali.) who had 13 herself.

The Cadets as a team put up a solid 15 service aces on the night, led by Emily Oliver and Julia Schroeder who had 4 apiece.

With their fourth consecutive loss, Norwich will look to get back in the win column during a conference tri-match with Simmons College and Rivier University this Saturday in Andrews Hall. Play tips off at 11:00 a.m versus the 9-9 Sharks and 10-6 Raiders.
