NORTHFIELD, VT. – The Norwich University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday with losses to Rivier University and Simmons College in GNAC action.
Norwich (9-9) fell to Rivier University in the first game of the day by scores of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-15. The Cadet's second matchup of the day came against the Sharks of Simmons College, who were able to best NU by set scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-18.
Sophomore Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) led the Cadets with 8 kills against Rivier. Freshman Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) chipped in with 7 kills and a team-leading 4 service aces. Junior Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) once again paced the Cadets offense with 21 assists.
Norwich's second match of the day saw the Cadets fall behind a red-hot Simmons squad early, and the Cadets was unable to catch up. Julia Schroeder put up a solid 8 kills in the second match, while sophomore Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) racked up a team-leading 13 digs in the effort.
Norwich returns to action next Saturday, October 14th, in tri-match action hosted by Suffolk University. The Cadets will square off against the host Rams in GNAC play at 11:00 a.m. followed by a non-conference tilt against Curry College at 1:00 p.m.
