STANDISH, Maine – A late rally by the Cadets was not enough to overcome Saint Joseph's College (Maine), as the Monks pulled away from Norwich to secure a 3-0 win during Wednesday night's Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.
The Cadets (9-12, 1-7 GNAC) traveled up to Saint Joseph's College of Maine to face off against the hosting Monks for their third straight away game this week. The Monks (13-12, 5-4 GNAC) got off to a hot start, taking the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-18. The third set looked to be much of the same, with Saint Joseph's opening up a 22-16 lead over the Cadets, before the Norwich women were able to put together a tenacious 7-2 run to bring it to a 24-23 game. However, Saint Joseph's was able to finally put the match away, taking the next point to win the game and the match.
Norwich was led by freshman Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) who was able to post a team-leading 8 kills on the night on a .368 attack percentage. Sophomores Monika Schneider (Brookline, N.H.), Marissa Perotti (Moultonborough, N.H.), and Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) all matched each other with 6 kills each. Junior Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) once again paced the Cadets with 24 assists on the night and chipped in 8 digs as well.
The Cadets will look to break their losing streak this Friday night when they return home to host a tri-match with GNAC opponents Albertus-Magnus College and Mount Ida College set to start at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. respectively.
