The late Albert E. Hicks excelled in baseball and football for the Cadets. A three-time all-state catcher, he captained the baseball club in his senior year. In four football seasons, this versatile athlete was named all-state at three positions - halfback, quarterback, and fullback - and was team captain in 1935. In 1936, Al won the NU Athletic Cup awarded to the most valuable senior athlete. He was a memeber of the rifle team, Skull and Swords, and the Glee Club and served as an officer in the Student Athlete Association. Al had 22 years of military service, both active and reserve. He saw action at Normandy and in Korea and rose to the rank of major in the 304th combat group of the ready reserve. Al was a manager for General Electric for 40 years and was active in his native Lynn area, founding Little League Baseball in Lynn and a unique boy scout troop in Lynnfield that saw all members become certified scuba divers.
