VERO BEACH, Florida – The Norwich University baseball team wrapped up its spring trip in a doubleheader against Penn State Fayette on Friday at Historic Dodgertown.
The Cadets swept the twinbill, winning game one 7-3 and walking off 4-3 in the second game.
In game one sophomore Brandon Pedley (Northfield, Vt.) got the scoring started in the top of the first inning on an RBI single to left field that scored sophomore LaShawn Thomas (San Antonio, Texas) from third base and gave the Cadets an early 1-0 edge. Thomas had reached on a leadoff walk and stole both second and third base before scoring.
Norwich added another run in the top of the second as freshman Bobby Gillespie (Redding, Calif.) grounded out to short, allowing fellow freshman Evan Shortsleeve (Litchfield, Conn.) to score from third base for a 2-0 lead.
The Roaring Lions tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the third, but the Cadets reclaimed the lead for good in the top of the fifth. Sophomore Billy Whaley (Northfield, Vt.) ripped a bases-loaded double to center that plated junior Brian Baker (Keene, N.H.), Pedley and sophomore Matt Sirois (Southington, Conn.) to give Norwich a 5-2 lead.
The Cadets tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth on a Baker two-RBI single to make it 7-2.

He struck out four batters in four innings of work. Sophomore Jacob Muetterties (Boxford, Mass.) pitched well in a relief effort, allowing one run (unearned) on one hit in three innings of work. The Cadets knotted the game at 2-2 on a Whaley RBI double to right field in the bottom of the third as freshman Drew Caldwell (Hanover, Mass.) came across to score.
The Lions came right back and took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning that would hold until the bottom of the seventh.

Pedley then stepped in and lined a 1-1 pitch to centerfield, scoring both the tying and winning runs and giving Norwich a 4-3 win.
