WENHAM, Mass. – The Norwich University baseball team traveled to take on Gordon College in non-conference action on Wednesday.
The Scots took advantage of an early lead and held on to beat the Cadets 6-2 at J. Tec White Field.
Gordon took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added two more runs in the fifth for a 4-0 lead. The Scots added a run in the sixth to stretch their lead to 5-0.
The Cadets got on the board in the top of the eighth inning when sophomore third baseman Chris Dayos (Temecula, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch. Freshman right fielder Nate Gehringer (Northampton, Penn.) delivered an RBI groundout later in the inning that plated sophomore left fielder Brady Doherty (Sandwich, Mass.) to make it 5-2.
Gordon added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth for the 6-2 final.
Senior Ed Gates (Griswold, Conn.) took the loss for Norwich to fall to 1-4 on the season. He allowed just two runs (both earned) on six hits in four innings of work on the mound while striking out two batters.
With the loss the Cadets fall to 1-16 while the Scots improve to 9-10. Norwich is next in action on Thursday, April 12th for a non-conference game against Southern Vermont at 3:30 p.m. This game will serve as the home opener for the Cadets.
