Baseball: Scots Top Cadets in Non-Conference Tilt

WENHAM, Mass. – The Norwich University baseball team traveled to take on Gordon College in non-conference action on Wednesday.

The Scots took advantage of an early lead and held on to beat the Cadets 6-2 at J. Tec White Field.

Gordon took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added two more runs in the fifth for a 4-0 lead. The Scots added a run in the sixth to stretch their lead to 5-0.

The Cadets got on the board in the top of the eighth inning when sophomore third baseman Chris Dayos (Temecula, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch. Freshman right fielder Nate Gehringer (Northampton, Penn.) delivered an RBI groundout later in the inning that plated sophomore left fielder Brady Doherty (Sandwich, Mass.) to make it 5-2.

Gordon added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth for the 6-2 final.

Senior Ed Gates (Griswold, Conn.) took the loss for Norwich to fall to 1-4 on the season. He allowed just two runs (both earned) on six hits in four innings of work on the mound while striking out two batters.
