NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Sophomore inside linebacker Cahan Quinn (Putnam, Conn.) of the Norwich University football team was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Quinn did not waste his first taste of collegiate action on Saturday afternoon, as the sophomore saw his first playing time of the year and made the most of it. The 6'0 linebacker from Connecticut put together a fine day during a 24-22 win over Maine Maritime Academy, accounting for 8 solo tackles and 17 total tackles altogether. Quinn didn't stop there as he also managed to force a Maine Maritime fumble in the fourth quarter, break up a pass, and chip in .5 tackles for a loss.
With 17 total tackles on the day, Quinn is now responsible for the second most tackles in a single game this season for the Cadets. Only senior captain Austin Roberts (East Bridgewater, Mass.) has put up a bigger number this year when he accounted for a record-breaking 22 tackles during last week's matchup with Merchant Marine.
Freshman kicker Clyde Tamburro (Elizabethtown, Pa.) is the only other Norwich football player to receive a NEWMAC weekly honor, this being Norwich's first season in the brand new conference. Tamburro took the honor after the Cadet's week two matchup against Saint Lawrence in which he connected on a 24-yard field goal and chipped in his lone point-after attempt in the 17-10 loss on September 9th.
The Cadets hit the road next week, as they look to keep the momentum from this week's win rolling against Catholic University, as the 3-4 Cardinals host Norwich for a 1:00 P.M. NEWMAC face off on Saturday afternoon.
