Football: Nine Cadets named to 2017 NEWMAC All-Academic Team

WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the members of the 2017 All-Academic Team on Thursday evening, and the Cadets had nine student-athletes named to the team. 

Altogether, the eight teams that participate in football within the NEWMAC had 87 honorees this year. To qualify, a student needed to achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on the 4.0 scale or a 4.35 or better on the 5.0 scale after the 2017 spring semester. Honorees were limited to students who have achieved second-year academic status at his institution and who had been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

In Norwich's first year in the conference, the team's honorees included;

Jacob Burke (River Edge, N.J.) - Sophomore, majoring in Civil Engineering

Austin Roberts (East Bridgewater, Mass.) - Senior, majoring in Communications

Zachary Adler (Stratham, N.H.) - Senior, majoring in Business Management

Dustin Spatz (Bernville, Pa.) - Junior, majoring in Criminal Justice

John Lemay (Wolfeboro, N.H.) - Junior, majoring in Mechanical Engineering

Tyler Jones (Hazlet, N.J.) - Senior, majoring in Civil Engineering

Jacob Barr (Walpole, Mass.) - Sophomore, majoring in Criminal Justice

Kevin Svarczkop (Essex Junction, Vt.) - Junior, majoring in Architecture

Philippe Bazinet (Otterburn Park, Quebec, Canada) - Senior, majoring in Criminal Justice

The Cadets wrap up their first season in the NEWMAC this Saturday afternoon with a conference face-off against WPI at home, set to kickoff at 1:00 PM.
