CANTON, N.Y. - The Norwich University football team dropped their second game of the 2018 season on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Saints of Saint Lawrence University by a 40-7 final score.
Behind the combination of wideout Anthony Ferraro and quarterback Tyler Grochot the Saints shredded the Cadets through the air for 446 yards and four touchdowns. Ferraro hauled in 153 yards on his own, including two touchdowns.
For the second straight week, the Cadets' offense struggled to find its rhythm. Starting quarterback Matthew Chaffee (Middletown, N.Y.) and backup Matt Dunn (Rockland, Mass.) combined for 123 yards and three interceptions while the rushing attack totaled a mere 97 yards on the day.
The lone Norwich touchdown on the day came courtesy of junior defensive back Michael Corinna (Milford, Mass.) who picked off Grochot midway through the second quarter and took it 40 yards down the field into the end zone. Clyde Tamburro (Elizabethtown, Pa.) nailed the extra point to keep his season record at a perfect 100%.
Bo Phillips (Chappaqua, N.Y.) led the defensive unit with nine tackles and an interception on the day, while Corinna added seven tackles to go along with his pick-six. Marshall Watters (Oakland, N.J.) picked up the lone sack on the day for NU.
Norwich once again struggled to convert on third down, posting a 13% rate (2-15) and being forced to punt the ball ten times. They also didn't do themselves any favors with penalties, collecting 11 on the day for over 100 yards.
The Cadets will look to right the ship next Saturday, as they will take on Castleton University on Homecoming Weekend at Norwich. The matchup will be Norwich's final non-conference game of the season and is set to start at 2:00 PM.
