Football: Aaron Conner snags NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week Award

BOSTON, Mass. - Junior running back Aaron Conner (Daytona Beach, Fla.) took home the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive Player of the Week award for Week Eight of the regular season after his stellar performance in Norwich's 31-0 victory over Catholic University on Saturday, it was announced Monday afternoon.

Aaron Conner got started early on Saturday, as he took the first offensive snap 46 yards for a touchdown to put the Cadets up 7-0 early on. He somehow bested that with a 52-yard rush for a touchdown on the Cadets' first drive of the second half to put Norwich ahead 17-0. At the end of the day, he rushed for 107 yards on just 11 attempts, averaging 9.7 yards a carry.

After his performance on Saturday, Conner now ranks second in the NEWMAC in rushing yards (623) and yards per game (77.9), third in yards per rush (4.9), and fourth in rushing touchdowns (6).

This is the third NEWMAC weekly award for Norwich football and the first of their sophomore season in the conference. Last year, Clyde Tamburro (Elizabethtown, Pa.) and Cahan Quinn (Putnam, Conn.) took home a Special Teams and Defensive Player of the Week award respectively.

With the win over Catholic, Aaron Conner and the Cadets sit at 3-5 overall this year and 2-3 within the NEWMAC. They'll take on the Engineers of MIT on Saturday afternoon in their home finale, before finishing up the year on the road against WPI the following Saturday.
