NORTHFIELD, Vt. - After opening his college career with a pair of solid performances at last weekend's Wheaton Tournament, Norwich freshman men's basketball player Chris Gaither was named the inaugural GNAC "Rookie of the Week" on Tuesday.
Gaither averaged 9.0 ppg. and 1.5 rpg., against Wheaton and FDU-Florham, helping to lead the Cadets to a 1-1 mark over the course of the two-day event.
In Norwich's season-opening 84-50 loss to Wheaton, Gaither came in off the bench and scored 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting. The Houston, Texas, native nailed a pair of three-point field goals and recorded one steal.
Then, in NU's 80-68 victory over FDU-Florham, Gaither scored eight points and made two steals. For the second straight game, he knocked down a pair of three-pointers.
The Norwich men's basketball team is idle this weekend, but the Cadets return to action on Thursday, Nov. 29, when they travel to New London, N.H., to take on Colby-Sawyer College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
