BOSTON - Ben Chase and Bryan Rouse combined to score 38 points to lead Emerson to a 74-48 victory over Norwich. Emerson's win, coupled with Emmanuel's 69-68 loss to St. Joseph's (Maine) gives the Lions the GNAC regular season title.
Derrick Montiero led the Cadets with a team-high 12 points. Norwich finishes the regular season with a 12-12 record (8-10 GNAC). The Cadets will be the No. 7 seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament, and they will play a quarterfinal game at Lasell on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. The Lasers were the only team to defeat the Cadets twice this season.
Jaren Jeffcoat added nine points for the Cadets, while Dirk Cionci scored seven.
Emerson raced out to a 40-21 halftime lead. Norwich took a quick 3-2 lead, but the Lions ripped off a 27-5 run to take their biggest lead of the half (29-8) with 8:15 remaining. The Cadets were able to pull to within 17 on three occasions, but that was as close as the Cadets would get.
Emerson put the game away by scoring 15 of the first 16 points of the second half. The lead swelled to 65-29 with 8:15 left in the second stanza, and Norwich never threatened.
