NORTON, Mass. - Jerrold Williams scored a game-high 34 points, and Jamel Bedford added 17 points and 12 rebounds to help lead the Norwich men's basketball team past FDU-Florham, 80-68, on Saturday afternoon.
The Cadets (1-1) overcame an eight-point first half deficit en route to their first victory of the young season. FDU-Florham (0-2) turned the ball over 21 times and was unable to contain Williams, who connected on seven three-point field goals.
NU trailed 65-64 with just 4:58 to play, but the Cadets ended the game on a 16-4 spurt to earn the victory. Williams netted 11 of Norwich's 16 points during the game-ending run, including several free throws in the final seconds.
Norwich led 14-8 at the 13:50 mark of the first half, but a 19-5 scoring run by FDU-Florham gave them a 27-19 edge with 6:29 to play before halftime. The Cadets responded with a 23-12 spurt to end the half, taking a 42-39 advantage into the break.
Chris Gaither and Mike Filipek each added eight points apiece for the Cadets, who bounced back from last night's 84-50 loss to Wheaton.
Ryan McPherson led three FDU-Florham players in double figures with a team-high 18 points.
The Cadets are now idle until Nov. 29, when they travel to New London, N.H., to take on Colby-Sawyer at 7 p.m.
