NORTON, Mass. - Anthony Coppola scored a game-high 17 points, and Wheaton shot a blistering 50 percent from the floor as Wheaton defeated Norwich, 84-50, in men's basketball action on Friday night. The Cadets (0-1) were led by Jamel Bedford and Chris Gaither, who scored 10 points apiece.
Wheaton (1-0) opened the game on a 9-2 run, and led 31-16 at halftime. The hosts were not seriously threatened in the second stanza, as they cruised to the win.
Mike Filipek chipped in eight points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Cadets.
NU shot just 32.8 percent from the field, including a dismal 3-of-20 showing from behind the three-point line.
Norwich returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Nov. 17, when they take on FDU-Florham on the second day of the Wheaton Tournament. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
