NASHUA, N.H. - Chris Hanson scored a game-high 28 points, and Ahmad Hemmingway and Tim Jackson added 22 and 21 points, respectively, as Daniel Webster defeated Norwich, 101-91, in a GNAC men's basketball game Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles (7-13, 5-10 GNAC) jumped out to 17-7 lead within the first six minutes of the game and never looked back en route to their first win over the Cadets since Feb. 12, 2002. Hanson hit 7-of-11 three-pointers, and Daniel Webster connected on 16-of-29 triples as a team.
Norwich (11-10, 7-8 GNAC) was led by Mike Filipek, who scored a team-high 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Jaren Jeffcoat added 19 points off the bench for the Cadets, while Jerrold Williams scored 18 points and Tim Fico chipped in 11.
The Cadets got as close as seven points in the first half, but the Eagles led 56-41 at intermission.
Daniel Webster increased its lead to 62-46 early in the second half, but a 21-9 Norwich run brought the Cadets back to within 71-67 with 12:52 to play. A 17-8 spurt by DWC build the Eagles' lead back up to 13 points (88-75) with 5:37 to go, and NU got no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Norwich returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 16, when the Cadets travel to Standish, Maine, to take on GNAC foe St. Joseph's (Maine).
