NORTHFIELD, Vt. – When the Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced their men's and women's basketball "Player of the Week" honors on Monday night, Norwich was at the top of both lists. Junior Antonio Davis was awarded on the men's side and senior Laurel McWilliams earned the title for the women's weekly honors.
Davis has been an integral part of the Cadets' success this past week, as Norwich (5-7, 1-4 GNAC) won their first conference game on Thursday against Suffolk University. He recorded a double-double in both games, with 19 points and 16 boards against the Rams, and had a 24-point, 11-rebound performance on Saturday against Johnson & Wales (R.I.)
For the women Cadets, McWilliams was a constant threat to her opponents. She has stepped up the point production for Norwich since her return to the team this second semester and recorded back-to-back double-double performances to lead the Cadets (10-4, 3-0 GNAC) to a 2-0 week. On Tuesday, McWilliams made 19 points and 10 boards to combine with two assists and one steal in the team's win over St. Joseph (Conn.). On Saturday, she tallied 24 points and 18 rebounds to lead her teammates in both categories in their defeat of Simmons College.
McWilliams was also named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) weekly honor roll, it was announced Tuesday evening. To view their full release, click here.
