NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich Cadets are preparing for their annual Ed Hockenbury Classic, scheduled for this weekend, Dec. 3-5. The women are set to host their tournament on Friday and Saturday, while the men will follow this action on Saturday and Sunday.
The first game will tip-off on Friday at 6 p.m. as the Norwich women (1-3) will compete against the Eagles of Green Mountain College. At 8 p.m. Anna Maria will be faced against the University of Maine – Machias.
The outcome of these two games will determine who is headed for the 1 p.m. consolation game on Saturday or the championships at 3 p.m.
The Norwich men (1-2) are hosting this annual Classic for the 14th straight year. They will set foot on their home court in Andrews Hall for the first time this 2010-11 season when they show up to play the University of Maine – Augusta on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Johnson State will compete against Colby-Sawyer in the 8 p.m. game. As with the women’s bracket, the consolation game and championship are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Ed Hockenbury was an honorary inductee into the Norwich University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. The winningest basketball coach in Norwich University history at that time, Ed Hockenbury coached the Cadets men's basketball team from 1976-77 until his untimely death following the 1991-92 campaign.
