Men's Basketball: Jeffcoat Drops 22 Points on Lasell to Join Norwich’s 1,000-Point Club

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – On Thursday night, senior guard Jaren Jeffcoat etched his name in the Norwich University record book, joining the Cadets’ 1,000-Point Club with a layup 20 seconds into the second half in Norwich’s 92-73 victory over Lasell.

The ball seemed to keep dropping for Jeffcoat, as he finished with a season-best 22 points, shooting 7-of-11 on the court with one 3-pointer and seven free throws. Jeffcoat also nabbed nine off the glass to help lead Norwich in rebounding.

Finding his way to Northfield, Vt. from Dallas, Texas; the rookie made quite an impression during his first season on the Cadets’ squad. He averaged 8.5 points per game, playing in 25 contests and was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s “Rookie of the Week” four times.

Last season, Jeffcoat averaged 13.8 ppg and 5.6 rpg. He was named to the Ed Hockenbury All-Tournament team, and finished the season with less than 200 points separating him from the 1,000-point milestone.

The Cadets are 10-7 overall and 6-4 in the conference with Jeffcoat averaging 11.6 points per game. With a 53-percent shooting percentage (77-of-146), he surpassed the 1,000-point mark in the game against the Lasers and currently stands with 1,013 career points. Wearing maroon and gold in 94 games at Norwich, Jeffcoat has accumulated 442 rebounds, 119 assists and 121 steals.

Next on the schedule for the Cadets will be hosting GNAC-rival Saint Joseph’s of Maine in a twinbill on Saturday, tipping off against the Monks at 3 p.m. The action follows up the women’s conference game at 1 p.m. in Andrews Hall at Norwich University.
