STANDISH, Maine – The Cadets battled the Monks for a full 40 minutes of GNAC action on Tuesday night, but were unable to close the gap that had been created by Saint Joseph's in the first half, as Norwich faced a 77-74 loss on the road.
The Cadets (4-6, 0-2 GNAC) were in the game throughout the first period, while possession went back and forth between the conference rivals. With 4:30 left on the clock in the first half, the Monks took control of the lead and never looked back. As much as Norwich closed the gap, they were unable to overcome Saint Joseph's.
Junior Antonio Davis recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double effort against the Monks, all stemming from his eight baskets inside the arc. He was credited with four assists while making two blocks and two steals.
Also contributing 16 points to the game was senior Jaren Jeffcoat, who went 5-of-7 in shooting on the night and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line. Sophomore Ryan Williams put 14 points on the scoreboard as he was 3-of-3 from the line and 5-of-11 in shooting. Both he and Jeffcoat sank one 3-pointer each.
The Monks advanced to 3-1 in the conference and 7-4 overall this season.
Norwich will return to Andrews Hall to host Suffolk University on Thursday night. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. After that, the Cadets will be on the road for their next two games, playing conference-foe Johnson & Wales at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Rhode Island and then playing another GNAC game on Wednesday evening at Mount Ida, scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
