Men’s Basketball: Norwich Turned Aside By Suffolk, 61-52

BOSTON – Junior Ryan Booth (Northfield, Vt.) of the Norwich University men's basketball team scored 14 points as the Cadets posted a 61-52 loss to Suffolk University on Wednesday. The Cadets dip to 3-4 overall and to 1-1 within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference – Suffolk nets its second victory in eight games, moving to 1-1 in the league.

Junior Darius Bryant (Calhoun Falls, S.C.) continued to impress in a reserve role for Norwich, ranking second on the team with nine points and leading the way with two steals. Junior Mike Hogervorst (Leiden, South Holland, Netherlands) pulled down six rebounds and scored eight points.

The Cadets owned a 15-14 lead with 6:59 to go in the first half, but Jonathan Eng potted a three-point basket to grant his team a 17-15 advantage. Bryant immediately followed with a layup for Norwich, but another Eng triple catapulted the hosts into the lead, 20-17.

Three-straight triples by Suffolk in the second half created a double-digit bulge with 10:13 to go in regulation time. Freshman George Allen (Miramar, Fla.) helped Norwich reduce the Rams lead with two second-half treys as his second of the game cut the Suffolk lead to 51-47, but Norwich allowed six-straight points and never cut the deficit any closer than four.

The Rams finished the game with nine three-point baskets and a 43.1% field goal percentage from the floor (22-of-51). Steven DiPrizio posted 13 of his team's 34 rebounds and scored nine points while Eng was 5-for-7 off the bench, making three shots from beyond the arc to score a team-leading 15 points.

Norwich will look for its second GNAC win of the year this Saturday, Dec. 10 against Mount Ida College at 3 p.m. on the road.
