NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's basketball team is conducting a fundraiser this Saturday, Feb. 11 to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Funds will be raised during the team's 1 p.m. tilt against Saint Joseph's (Me.) College.
The goal of the event is to raise funds and awareness of those diseases and help the Society work toward finding a cure. The Cadets will join their counterparts from Saint Joseph's in wearing red and yellow socks and the coaches will wear white shirts – the colors of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society are red, yellow and white.
Former NU Associate Director of Sports Information Charlie Crosby '63 passed away last April after a 15-year battle with leukemia and Jimmy Giroux, the younger brother of junior Ricky Giroux (Colchester, Vt.), was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia at just eight months old.
Donations to the organization will be welcomed in Andrews Hall throughout Saturday's contest. LLS is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding research, finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients – the organization focuses its efforts on research, advocacy and patient support during their illness.
