Men's Basketball: Cadets Fall to Lesley, 66-55

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's basketball team opened up the 2017 Hockenbury Classic on Saturday evening, dropping their opener to Lesley University by a 66-55 final score.

The Cadets fell victim to the hot-shooting of the visiting Wildcats, most notably that of junior Xeo Golding. Golding racked up a game-high 21 points, thanks to a 7-11 night from behind the 3-point line while pulling down 4 rebounds and tallying 2 blocks.

For the Cadets, senior Ryan Booth (Northfield, Vt.) was the only player to reach double digits scoring with 10 points, as well as collecting a team-leading 5 assists. Senior Zygimantas Sirvydas (Silale, Lithuania) put together a complete game with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. The Cadets struggled to convert from long range tonight, shooting 28.1% (9-32) from 3-point land.

In game two the Lyons of Wheaton College were able to best the Lancers from Worcester State by an 81-69 total. Senior Ryan Fogarty had himself a fine night on the way to etching his name into the Wheaton record books, racking up a game-high 29 points to place himself in the 1,000-career points club at Wheaton. For Worcester State, Will Watkins Jr. led the way with 23 points and 7 rebounds.

With their losses, Norwich and Worcester State will face off at 1:00 pm tomorrow afternoon in the third-place game. Immediately afterward, Lesley and Wheaton will compete for the 2017 Hockenbury Classic Title, set to tip-off at 3:00 pm.
