WINTHROP, Mass. – Freshman Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.) swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Weekly Awards this week, taking home both the Player and Rookie of the Week honors, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Davis has been carving out a bigger role for himself in the Cadets' offensive attack each week this year, as the young forward from Washington continues to improve and put up solid performances game after game. This weekend Davis set a new career high for points twice, first with 24 points against Wilkes University on Friday evening, and then the next night with a 25-point effort against Colby-Sawyer College to lead the Cadets to an 83-64 victory.
Currently leading the Cadets with 13.7 points per game, Davis has shot an efficient 47.4% (46-97) from the field this season, including a 42% (21-50) shooting percentage from 3-point territory, both of which are good for second on the team.
This is the first GNAC weekly award for an NU player since Chibuzor Ogbue took home Rookie of the Week honors in January of 2016 and the first Player of the Week award since Tom McDonald received the award in December of 2013.
Davis and the rest of the Norwich team return to action this Saturday, January 6th, when they host Saint Joseph's College of Maine for a 3:00 PM GNAC battle in Andrews Hall.
