BOSTON, Mass. – The Norwich University men's basketball team hit the road on Tuesday afternoon for their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game in a row, dropping this one to Suffolk University by an 83-66 final score.
The first 13 minutes of action saw several lead changes, as both teams started the game in an offensive rhythm. A 10-0 run Suffolk run led by sophomore Alex Jacovides helped send the Rams into the half with a 39-29 advantage.
The Norwich defense came out strong in the second half, holding Suffolk scoreless for nearly three minutes of play. Both teams started swapping baskets again, with Norwich trying to chip away at the lead. In the end, they just couldn't catch up to the Rams and dropped this one by an 83-66 final score.
Senior point guard Zygimantas Sirvydas (Silale, Lithuania) led the way for Norwich with a team-high 18 points on 5-6 shooting. Norwich shot a mere 38.6% on the night, compared to a 53.2% night for the Rams. Suffolk also outpaced the Cadets in rebounds (38-30), assists (19-8), and points in the paint (38-24).
The Cadets will look to get back on track this Thursday when they welcome GNAC newcomer Regis College to Northfield for a 3:00 PM tipoff in Andrews Hall.
