NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University Cadets came out firing on all cylinders on Wednesday night and cruised to a 91-58 victory over the Hornets of Lyndon State College.
The Cadets came out of the gate hot, and before many of the fans in the gymnasium were even in their seats had opened up a 23-7 advantage over the Hornets. It was much of the same for the remainder of the game, as the Hornets failed to close the gap in any significant way from end-to-end. Norwich entered halftime up 43-25 before finishing off the game by outscoring Lyndon State in the final half 48-33.
There were more than a few impressive performances from the maroon and gold tonight, highlighted by the senior class. Senior Mike Hogervorst (Leiden, South Holland, Netherlands) netted a game-high 19 points while also pulling down 7 rebounds, while classmate Zygimantas Sirvydas (Silale, Lithuania) flirted with a triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists. Fellow senior Ryan Booth (Northfield, Vt.) netted 15 points and 2 steals of his own. Also in the offensive mix was Joe Bertrand (Saugus, Mass.) with 12 points off the bench on 4-6 shooting from 3-point territory and freshman Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.), who stayed hot offensively with 12 points on 5-9 shooting from the field.
NU bested the Hornets in rebounds (46-28), points in the paint (40-20), assists (19-10), shooting percentage (53.7%-34.8%), and points off turnovers (21-10) on the night.
The win bumps Norwich up to 5-8 on the season, as they make it two wins in a row coming off their last game against Regis on January 11th. The Cadets will be back in action this Saturday, as they get back into conference play with a 1:00 PM tipoff on the road against the Rivier Raiders.
