NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's basketball team fell to the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats on Saturday afternoon by a 72-56 final score in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
Prior to the game, the Cadets held their annual Senior Day ceremony, honoring the commitment and contributions of the team' seven senior student-athletes.
On the court the Cadets got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 10-2 lead over the Wildcats. The two teams went back and forth from that point on, and Norwich entered the halftime break with a slim 33-27 advantage.
The back and forth action continued until the end of the second half, where JWU managed to put together a back-breaking 16-3 run over the Cadets to pull away with the 72-56 final score. The Wildcats held Norwich to a mere seven points over the last ten minutes of game time.
Mike Hogervorst (Leiden, Netherlands) led the way for Norwich with 13 points and 9 rebounds, while classmate Ryan Booth (Northfield, Vt.) put together a 12 point, 10 rebound double-double. Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.) was the only other Cadet to reach double-digit points, as he added 11 points off the bench.
Brian Hogan-Gary had a monster game for JWU with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Randall Ferdinand matched his 18 points with 18 of his own.
Today marks the last regular season home game for the Cadets of the 2017-18 season, as they'll finish their regular season off with two GNAC road games next week. First up is a trip to Emmanuel College for a 7:00 PM tilt with the Saints on Tuesday evening.
