Men's Basketball: Cadets upset bid falls short, 77-72

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Norwich University men's basketball team fell to the Johnson & Wales Wildcats in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinals on Tuesday night, wrapping their season up with the 77-72 loss.

Facing off with the #2 seed in the GNAC tournament, the 7th-seeded Cadets were facing long odds coming into the game on Tuesday night. However, with merely a minute and a half left in regulation, the Cadets trailed the Wildcats by a single point after a Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.) three-pointer made it 71-70 JWU. The Cadets just couldn't get the big shot to fall, however, and the Wildcats calmly went 6-6 from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds of the game to escape with the 77-72 win and advance to the conference semifinals.

Senior point guard Zygimantas Sirvydas (Silale, Lithuania) led the way for the Cadets with 24 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists on the night. Jesse Davis poured in 20 points of his own, along with a team-high 7 rebounds on the night.

Norwich wraps things up with a 10-16 record this year and a 7-9 mark within the GNAC, earning the program's first postseason berth since the 2013-14 season.
