Men's Basketball: Cadets placed ninth in Preseason Poll

WINTHROP, Mass. - The Norwich University men's basketball team has been projected to finish ninth this year in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), according to the annual Preseason Coaches Poll released on Thursday afternoon.

The Cadets finished the 2017-18 season with a 10-16 overall record and a 7-9 mark within the conference, good enough to earn the program's first playoff berth since the 2013-14 season. Norwich put on a good showing in the GNAC Quarterfinals against the #2 seed Johnson & Wales Wildcats, but their upset bid fell short as JWU prevailed 77-72 to end the Cadets season.

This year's poll has Norwich finishing in the ninth-place spot with 37 total points. The JWU Wildcats netted eight of the first place votes and totaled 139 points for the top spot, with Albertus Magnus earning the other four first-place votes and 135 points in second place. Conference newcomer Saint Joseph (Conn.) starts their GNAC history this year and is already picked to finish third with 113 total points. The full voting breakdown is as follows:

Head Coach Paul Booth and the Cadets will get their season started on November 9th when they travel to Thomas College for a two-day tournament, opening play with a 7:30 PM matchup with UMaine-Presque Isle. Their home opener will be on November 17th, when they welcome Lesley College to Andrews Gymnasium for a 1:00 PM tilt.
