WATERVILLE, Maine - The Norwich University men's basketball team opened up their 2018-19 season at the Charlie Ryan Tournament hosted by Thomas Collge, falling to UMaine-Presque Isle by a 79-57 final score in their opening game.
The Cadets struggled out of the gate, as the Owls jumped out to a 15-4 lead within the first five minutes of game time. Norwich did manage to close the half on a 14-7 run to cut the lead to just six, entering the halftime break trailing by a 30-24 score.
In the second half, Presque Isle simply outshot the Cadets from the field, putting up a 57.1% mark to contrast the Cadets' 35.0% effort. Most notably, the Owls went 10-15 from three in the second half while the Cadets went 0-13. Presque Isle outscored the Cadets 49-33 in the second half, buttoning up the 79-57 victory.
Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.) led the Cadets with 15 points in 32 minutes on the floor, while fellow sophomore Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds and classmate Christopher Bryant (Crestview, Fla.) put up 10 points and eight rebounds.
Norwich will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on the hosting Thomas College squad, a game set to tipoff at 1:00 PM.
