PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Norwich University men's basketball continued their long road trip to start the season, traveling to Plymouth State to take on the Panthers in non-conference action on Tuesday night.
The Panthers' offensive attack came out firing on all cylinders in the first half, led by Dante Rivera who went 6-7 from three in the half on his way to 20 points. Norwich didn't fold, however, putting up solid shooting numbers in the half and entered the locker room trailing by a slim 42-33 margin.
Norwich made the game very interesting in the final eight minutes of the second half, as they put together a massive 18-4 run to cut the Plymouth State lead all the way down to just eight points. The Cadets simply ran out of time to complete the comeback bid, as the Panthers went 6-6 from the free throw line over the last two minutes to seal up the 84-74 victory.
The Cadets spread the ball around on offense, as five different players reached double-digit scoring. Senior Daniel Haimes (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) led the maroon and gold with 17 points via a 5-9 night from three. Christopher Bryant (Crestview, Fla.) put up another double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds, while Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.), Matt Allen (Barre, Vt.), and Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) all reached double digits as well.
With the loss, Norwich falls to 1-2 on the young 2018-19 season. They'll open their home schedule this Saturday when they host Lesley University for a 1:00 PM tip in Andrews Hall Gymnasium.
