NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's basketball team hosted the Lynx of Lesley University for their 2018-19 home opener on Saturday afternoon, as they rolled to an 82-68 victory in Andrews Hall Gymnasium.
The Cadets came out on fire in the first half, opening a 10-0 lead within the first two minutes of game time, highlighted by back-to-back Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.) three-pointers. Lesley put up five unanswered points to stem the Cadet offense momentarily, but Norwich went on an 11-0 run from that point to go up 21-5 after a mere nine minutes of game time. The Lynx managed to narrow the gap heading into the half, but entered the locker room trailing 38-27.
Matt Allen (Barre, Vt.) got the second half started for Norwich with a slashing layup to get the offense going, and the Cadets rolled from there. They managed to hold off a stronger second half Lesley attacking, outscoring the Lynx 44-41 in the final half to seal up the 82-68 victory.
Sophomore Christopher Bryant (Crestview, Fla.) led the way again for Norwich with his third straight double-double in just four games this year. Bryant shot 7-10 from the field on his way to an 18 point, 11 rebound day. Daniel Haimes (San Juan Capistrano, Calif. ) got hot from long distance in the second half, going 3-4 from deep on his way to 12 points off the bench. Jesse Davis and Matt Allen both put up 12 points apiece, while Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) collected 11 points, four rebounds, and two blocks. Dan Bertrand (Saugus, Mass.) put up a full stat-line with four points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
The win brings Norwich's season record to an even 2-2 so far. They'll stay at home for their next game, when they host the Pilgrims of New England College on November 27th at 5:00 PM.
