NORTH ADAMS. Mass. - The Norwich University men's basketball team traveled to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Saturday afternoon. falling to the Trailblazers in overtime by a 78-69 final score.
The Cadets faced an uphill battle all day long. as the hosting Trailblazers never trailed during regulation. Norwich outpaced MCLA in the second half with a massive 42-28 effort over the last twenty minutes to rally and tie the game up. Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.) capped the comeback with back-to-back three pointers to knot the score at 63-63 with twenty seconds remaining, and after MCLA missed the potential game-winner the game entered the overtime period.
Norwich lost their momentum out of the gate, as MCLA put up a quick 7-0 run to open the period and regain control of this one, coasting to the 78-69 victory.
Jesse Davis had a monster 20 point, 11 rebound double-double to lead the Cadets in both categories. Freshman Donovan Lewis Jr. (Savannah, Ga.) continued the strong start to his first season with 15 points and eight boards while classmate Spencer Conatser (Reno, Nev.) dropped in 11 points after getting the first start of his career.
Norwich will be back in action Sunday afternoon against SUNY-Delhi before getting their 2019 schedule started on Friday, January 4th against Anna Maria at home in their conference opener.
