PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Norwich University men's basketball team continued Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Tuesday evening, falling to the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University by a 79-42 final score.
The Wildcats came out of the gate with a stifling defensive effort, limiting Norwich to just five points in the first ten minutes of play and opening up a 30-5 lead on their way to a 48-21 lead at the half. The second half was a near carbon copy of the first, as Norwich was outpaced 31-21 in the half to seal up the 79-42 final score.
Donovan Lewis Jr. (Savannah, Ga.) and Daniel Haimes (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) each netted 11 points to lead Norwich, with Lewis Jr. adding in a team-high seven rebounds. The Cadets struggled to remain in possession of the ball, committing 23 turnovers, 16 of which came in the first half. JWU was able to convert those turnovers into 31 points on the afternoon, along with dominating the paint to a 44-16 tune.
The loss drops the maroon and gold down to 6-7 overall this year and 0-2 within the GNAC. Norwich will be back at it on Thursday evening when they host Elms College at 3:00 PM in Andrews Hall Gymnasium.
